I have to disagree with the premise. Diesels are more efficient in part because they can have more compression. That's not a matter of being fair, it's a matter of physics. The gasser IS naturally handicapped in this regard and always will be. Has nothing to do with being "fair". You have to take the engines as they come and technology allows for diesels to have more compression.
