Diesel engines produce maximum torque at half the RPMs of any gas engine, even a tractor engine that is designed to operate at lower RPMs. That equates to better ability to tow a load, especially up grades.
Whatever diesel you buy next will produce 1/100th as much soot out the tailpipe and will have more power and be better at towing and have more effective downhill speed control with its exhaust braking and transmission coordination, and it will be a lot quieter. You also get a truck that has many more creature comforts and the option of heated or air conditioned seats and far better crash protection.
Two friends in the two years have downsized their RV rigs and have gone from diesel to gas engines as well. They wanted to make traveling simpler and easier and be able to get into more campgrounds. Both went from towing large 5th wheel trailers to Class B motorhomes and they and their spouses are very happy with the change.
