- rwessExplorerIf you are traveling north-south or south-north always use US-27, as Americanrascal stated. You may make it thru ATL with no problems, but it is getting worse everyday. The construction in Henry County (southside) is compounding the problem. US-27 is a very relaxing drive, mostly 65 mph and also use I-185 between LaGrange and Fort Benning.
- Skinny_ManExplorer IIIt was a god forsaken ride to the State Park on Friday. The ride home today was a breeze though.
- lizzieExplorerWe have to go to Florida on business next week but will wait until Tuesday to leave. Using 27 or 19 is just too far out-of-the-way for us so we will have to grit our teeth and deal with the traffic. We will drive straight through on I-75 about 11 am as we usually do and hope for the best. lizzie
- BurbManExplorer IIIt's gonna be baaaaadddddd.....
- Skinny_ManExplorer II75 is already a parking lot south of the airport. Oh well, I will just grit my teeth and bear it when I get off work this afternoon. It is what it is.
- GrandpaKipExplorer IIWhen we head south towards Florida, we take 85S to Atlanta, go through downtown, then get off on 19S before the huge backup starts near whatever mall is down there. Once you are past the strip mall area, 19 is a 4 lane road with very little traffic. We take it all the way to Tallahassee.
- hondaCT90Explorerfunny to see this post...just 2 weeks ago we were on a 10 day road trip which included Friday night (about 9pm) driving through Atlanta I-85 down to La Grange.
course rush hour traffic was long gone, and I've commuted to Atlanta for business many years..so in a car i'm right there with the crazies..but pulling a big box behind me .. I was surprised how tense i got for a short bit as friday night party goers were playing mariokart behind the real wheel..and there's a tad bit of road where the lanes are narrow and while i stay in the lines, not all other drivers do... I was relieved to be on the other side of that bit of road.
my memorial holiday weekend is always spent working...I own a biz that serves the concert music industry so we have festivals, nascar, theme park concerts, etc...this is always slammin busy for us...but i can't imagine traveling for pleasure on this weekend...unless you can leave before everyone breaks from their desks and rushes out...get in place ahead of the herd and then it can be fun...but i avoid boating on the lake, camping, driving if possible..just kinda takes the fun out of it when i have to loose my religion just driving to he destination (lol) - americanrascalExplorer

Any of y'all pulled through ATL on a holiday weekend? If so just how bad as it? I am an hour north but avoid it like the plague and really can't remember the last time I went through downtown.
I have given up on Atlanta almost at anytime. If its not traffic, the road surface conditions (I-285 especially) are horrible. There can me bad traffic at times on Holiday weekends.
Not sure of your direction or destination
To move around Atlanta headed south I am off I-75 at Calhoun, take 53 to Rome (using GA 1 Rome bypass), Then US 27 south to LaGrange, then I-185 to Columbus, then the 520 from Ft Benning to Tifton (or continue on US 27 south to Tallahassee) depending on destination.
Its all 4 lane- no traffic to speak of- a few stop lights scattered here and there and most speeds above 55.
When I travel that route between LaGrange and Calhoun I can do it in the same time as around 285 and its very relaxing. - wannavolunteerFExplorerI wouldn't do it on Friday (today) if you can avoid it. It will be busy all day, and I75 South leaving town will be impossible. Sat or Sun probably no worse than any other day.
- Hiking_HunterExplorerSame here, avoid 7AM-9:30AM and 4PM-6:30PM and you'll be fine. In fact, I'd rather go thru ATL instead of around I-285. Much quicker if it's not rush hours. I don't think a holiday weekend would be any different.
