- alenkExplorerI had a mount built that holds 2400 watt generator above the tongue, which places them above the LP Gas Bottles. It added about 80 pounds to the tongue weight. I bolted the generator onto the mount with heavy rubber anti-vibration blocks between the generator and the mount. It was fairly loud, so I have a 1" thick piece of styrofoam insulation that stores under the tonneau cover on my truck.
When I crank up the generator, I slide the styrofoam insulation down between the RV and the generator. Its not any louder than a semi idling next to you in a roadside park. Been there two years. I don't use it all the time, but when you need it, you need it.
I have a Hensley Arrow hitch so I haven't noticed any difference in the weight on my tongue. - Redterpos3Explorer

- hbillsmithExplorerI carry a Champion 3100 Inverter (about 75# and $750). I had a receiver hitch installed on the rear of my Kodiak 242RESL 30' trailer. I had a local weld shop that all the RV vendors use fabricate and install it for me. It's much stronger than a simple bumper add and can carry up to 500#. To enclose the Champion from the weather while towing and as a bonus carry it so that I could run it mounted, I purchased a GearDeck17, This video says it all.

Had a Gen on the rear of mine. Bolted down to a tray that used the rear hitch. It made the trailer rear end heavy and dragged the ground at the slightest driveway.
Plus, it's too heavy to remove all the time, so I ran it while still on the tray. Vibrated the trailer and was louder.
It dragged often enough that when I removed it, I had to cut it off. Which wasn't hard, so the security concern is real.
Don't do it is my advice. Put it in the tow vehicle. If you don't want to lift a heavy Gen in and out of the truck, by two smaller ones.
As stated above, the very reason I prefer mine some distance from the RV when in use.
If you mount on the rear of the TT, just make sure it's high enough to eliminate a drag problem.
A Champion "open frame" non-inveter 4000/3500 generator weighs approx. 100 lbs. Not too bad, & pretty easy for two people to mount or dismount, quick & easy. A single 2000 watt inverter type weighs about 45 lbs. - pira114Explorer IIHad a Gen on the rear of mine. Bolted down to a tray that used the rear hitch.
