Atwood camper jacks

I have a 2003 Lance 821 with Atwood wireless remote jacks. It never works right with the remote. Is it possible to do away with the wireless part and go to a wired type remote? Could I just buy a wired remote and plug it in where the little sensor with the red light is? Thanks in advance for any and all help,

  • Yes, the battery is fully charged. New battery in the remote. Wire plug ends are all clean. Hooked to shore power. 12volt battery at each motor, they run forward and backwards.
  • Before replacing any parts or hot-wiring, make sure you have a good, fully charged camper battery, and that you DON'T have the battery disconnect switch in the OFF position. The remote control jacks are known to work funky when the battery is low, or defective, or the disconnect switch is off.

The jacks should work correctly with a fully charged camper battery, or from a fully charged camper battery plus shore power, but not from shore power alone.

Do the jacks work any different if you plug the camper in to shore power, or start the truck so the alternator is supplying power? If they do, that would point to a problem with the camper battery.

If you decide that parts are needed, Gama Electronics makes all of that equipment for Atwood/Lance, and you can gets the parts cheaper from them.

    Wireless Receiver

    Wireless Transmitter

I see they also make a wired control module and hand-held remote, so you could probably convert your wireless system to wired if you wanted. I'd call them to discuss first, though.

  • The control board in under my sink. How do I know what to cross fro wires? There are two wires for each motor that hooks to it. What wire do I put 12volts to? Also what is the thing that I push the button on by the door that the red light comes on? Is that the receiver?
  • Sorry, I meant remote. I had a similar issue when my remote didn't work.
  • There's two pieces to your set up. There's the handheld remote and the receiver / control board that the motors are wired too.
I agree, it seems like the control board has a problem, not your remote. I'd find the board and use some jumper wires to apply 12v directly to the motor leads. Maybe your motors on your front jacks are bad. Maybe the wiring is bad.
  • The light stays lit but only the two rear jacks go down and none of them will go up.
  • I think the remote just has an issue. My first one didn't work right but the next that I mail ordered has always worked. If the switch won't stay lit, try WD 40 in it.
