Looks good to me. Nice to have a diesel option in a mid sized pick up. It's only 2.8 liters...but that should do the trick for light to medium towing. If you want more...then you need to go up to a full size pickup.
Want more than a full sized pickup... then go up to a Class 5 to 8 truck. It's all about desires, needs and what options are out there to fulfill what you want/need.
This mid size diesel has just increased available possibilities. Some people, many years ago bought diesel Toyota and Nissan pickups. They have not been available in North America for awhile. Now that's changed...smaller diesel trucks are here again.
How good it is...well I'll wait for the first reviews and actual tests.
What is interesting the horsepower and torque are exactly the same as the Holden Colorado
using the same VMmotori engine. The Holden is Euro V specification, so what difference between it and the U.S. regulations? - IdaDExplorer

Dave Smith's pricing on Rams isn't actually that great, or at least it wasn't in my experience. 45Ricochet wrote:
Pretty big boy? Well after the aging process I now stand about 6'1" and 196 lbs as of this morning. I did lose 30 last year just by counting calories.
New truck is rated at 7k towing, am I missing something?
Boat link weight
Actually my older one is about 500 lbs lighter unladen.
No wonder why I drive a Super Duty... I'm 6'4' and 240lbs while not counting calories. :B
I'm sure you know as well, but the aerodynamics of a boat isn't the best when towing, but perhaps yours with more covered deck area it doesn't create as much drag.- 45RicochetExplorerPretty big boy? So what ballpark price are we talking about on this thing for a crew cab 4wd with the diesel and basic amenities like keyless and AC and etc?
Picking up our Canyon over at Dave Smith tomorrow. It has the V6 engine but pretty much stripped down as far as bells and whistles. Price came in at $29339. Just add the price of the diesel engine should give you a good starting point.
On edit the options where the engine ( $1235) and also the following
Engine block heater, auto locking rear end, trailer package and AM FM with the 4.2 color display with intellLink.
So you can deduct the 1235 off the diesel engine price.
Rick,
I thought you said you were a pretty big boy. Are you sure you don't need a full size mans truck with the correct capacity?
Who's going to tow your boat?- 45RicochetExplorer

Good for you...you sure have made a huge change in direction...The problem with just adding the $3700 or so for the diesel to a base Crew Cab 4 x 4 is there are 2 or 3 other options being forced on the buyer. The diesel only comes in the upper two trim packages and the lane change safety package and sliding rear window are another. The tow package with integrated controller comes with it but it is unclear at this time if it is actually part of the diesel package or an option
Hopefully the salesman will get back to me soon...
Is Dave Smith as good at Chevy pricing as he is said to be with Ram...I am not afraid to travel to save some money...

Same pricing $375 over invoice. That place is crazy, they must have 100 sales persons working at the same time. They have really grown since I was there last. - ricaticExplorer

I have the salesman at the local GMC dealer working up a price as I write this for a base diesel GMC Canyon Crew Cab 4 x 4 with the only additional option being a factory spray in bed liner. I know that the "base diesel" is at least at SLE level trim and has other mandatory options. I also know that the bedliner is about $ 400.00. I will update this as soon as I know his price...at least we will all have a starting point...

Cool, I'll be interested to hear what he comes back with. They need to be careful not to get too high in price or people might just opt for a full size truck instead. I understand those trucks burn more fuel, but they are more capable as well. - PUCampinExplorerFor a long time I have read threads about "if only someone would make a 4 door midsize diesel, they will sell like hotcakes!" Well, GM listened, here it is! Now lets see if the market is big enough. If I wasn't flat broke I would really consider it to replace my aging daily driver. Mid 30s is awesome mpg, my 2001 focus only does 30 with 75% highway! And diesel is $1 per gallon cheaper in CA right now.
