Back Up Camera

Also wanting a back-up camera behind TT. Anyone have a decent wireless they can recomend? Recent post about the Voyager indicated it could have condensation problems as it is permanently attached. How about a magnet mounted wireless that would transmit well over 50ft and could just be installed when needed?? Our tailgate mounted back-up mirror works well for hooking up the TT w/o help.

This is my Pyle monitor. Also pictured is a cool hood I found online. You can also see the black cup I use to fool the light sensor, keeping my lights on, thus powering the cameras. You can use black tape as well. Feeding the cable through the dash was done by removing the am/fm radio and the trim bezel. It's probably the most daunting part of the install. I have experience in the aftermarket radio business, plus I like to tear things apart so it wasn't so bad for me :-). I used large velcro pads to affix it to the dash. NO holes were drilled. I even used the same hole the light sensor was in since it's covered by the cup.
I kinda cheated with the RG-6 cable on the camper. I simply ran it underneath along the frame and came in behind my spare tire and through the bottom of the jutted out rear brake light housing. you can only see a couple inches of the cable from behind the camper. It worked great for my install but others could prove more difficult. Good luck!

I have one mounted above my license plate. Have it wired to my lights and plugged into my Rand McNally RV GPS. When I turn on my lights an icon appears on the screen, Touch it and the backup camera is on. Nice for hooking up to the TT. Don't need TW help.

This is the push on F-connector I use at the camper for quick disconnection of the rear camera.


This is the camera I use on both the truck and the camper. Notice it does NOT have LED for night-vision. on these cheap cameras, they only serve to light up the lens and that makes them pretty useless at night. I prefer to light up the area behind and am planning to add some bumper LED lights for backing up.
One note about these cameras: the better imaging cameras are CCD but are expensive; the worst is a CMOS. There is a newer type called CMD that are kind of in the middle. Pretty good imaging and a decent price. I prefer the CMD.


This is a terrible picture but if you look closely you'll see the camper cam in the window. It is affixed with 3M command strips. holding up well so far.

I have a Pyle monitor with 2 camera inputs. I have a camera on the lift gate and one in the back window of the TT. Mine are on ALL the time to help with passing and clearance issues. It's nice to be able to check on the hitch and the back of the TT with the touch of a button. Installation was pretty easy. Bought the cams & monitor on eBay. Used RG6 tv cable and F to RCA adapters. Tapped power for the cams from running lights (I keep mine on all the time by covering the light sensor with a black condiment cup from Taco Hell). I have one on my tailgate for hitching up. Takes the guess work out of the process.
