I alternated batteries so that I always had a charged battery in reserve on the water.
This is not a boat forum.
IF you have access to a reasonably good charging method, like shore power or a generator, there is NO real advantage to using one battery while charging another. The charging source does a fine job of providing power to USE while it also charges the weak batteries.
Two batteries connected together last at least twice as long and even if run down to almost totally flat, the system will have usable voltage again a few seconds after a charging source is attached, assuming that it has sufficient capacity.
IF YOU HAVE A GOOD CHARGING SOURCE, THERE IS NO ADVANTAGE TO USING YOUR TWO BATTERIES ONE AT A TIME. NONE.
I guess you have never been out so far you can't see the shore. We that have understand redundancy. - Gene_GinnyExplorer

Because you are not paying attention. Nothing you said refutes or changes the fact that using one battery at a time gives you NO advantage over just leaving them both connected......IF you have easy access to a charger. - Sam_SpadeExplorer

In your RV ?? No I haven't.....and don't intend to either. - Boon_DockerExplorer IIIGEEZ, give it a rest already.
- Community AlumniThe OP asked how to wire a switch to disconnect both batteries. A Blue Sea 6007 does that job. I'm not sure what all the animosity against the 6007 setup is all about. The switch costs virtually the same as the 6006, short runs of low gauge wire can be had for next to nothing, and you get some flexibility with battery use. When I add a second battery I'll swap my 6006 out for a 6007.
- tshirtmanExplorerOk OK, just tell me if you can run both rv batteries in (aluminum box) on ONE disconnect,????
Do you have the Utube link to install. I only see the install vids for single batteries.
thank you:) - beemerphile1Explorer

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! again - westendExplorerYes, you can use one switch.
The paralleled 12V batteries or series connected 6V batteries are connected like a single battery with one (+) cable to the inside of the RV and one (-) phase cable to ground (frame). The switch is connected in the (+) cable, located where convenient.
It is a good idea not to switch the breakaway switch but connect it directly to the batteries. - tshirtmanExplorerThanks Westend---
your reply was the most helpful:)
