battery seems to drain way too fast: help

Thinking we need someone to help test our system to see if we can pinpoint the problem. the back of my mind I've been wondering if it is a bad converter

We just went thru the same thing and it was a "dead" convertor.

Whether a fridge is on electric or propane there is a DC draw....control circuit uses DC power. Even more when on propane for the gas valve.
On electric the draw would be from the AC power, 3.5A AC for electric heater.

Now if it was a 3 way and run on 12V heater......yes that would be a heavy DC draw, 27A.

But OP stated nothing on/running and batteries don't last.
Bad batteries and/or bad converter

Try leaving the refer on propane and see what happens. As another poster said a refer on electric draws a lot of power.

Check the converter - if you don't have meter and/or know where the converter is located plugging the rig into shore power should result in brighter interior lights. Also - check all battery connections (clean and tighten) and make sure the battery ground to trailer frame is clean/tight.

No haven't really checked the wire connection. I'm sure they are original with the trailer. I will also take batteries and have them load tested and fluid checked.

Are the battery wires on the TT original? Or a bunch of years old? Have you carefully checked the condition of the battery connections AND the wires themselves? Last year I was having similar problems, and bought a new battery - no difference, battery just wouldn't last.

The battery connections coming off the trailer looked okay, maybe a little corrosion. When I thoroughly wired brushed them, I suddenly got more battery power.

Then, remembering electrical issues with snowplows, I peeled back some of the insulation on the wires behind the connections - yep! A surprising amount of corrosion, UNDER the insulation! I cut back the wire to where it was clean, only a couple of inches, reattached the connections, and now it is like I have a brand new electrical system.

Old battery wires can get corrosion under the insulation, so check them carefully.

MORMJS - When we had the older single mode converter/charger that only produced 13.6VDC we would see boiling out of battery fluids pretty regular. I then started checking my batteries every couple of weeks. After installing a smart mode converter/charger system that uses multi-charge modes the boil;ing out of fluids stopped. I still check my battery every couple of weeks out of habit I guess... Your trailer is new enough to have a smart mode converter/charger installed as standard items.

The OP's converter/charger is most likely one of the older single mode DC OUTPUT type converter/charger which will boil out battery fluids over time. Once the battery fluids boil out on you and you do not re-fill right away will cause damage to batteries and will need to be replaced.
