Bearings vs grease?

YES! replace the bearings especially on the wheel that was hot. If it ran hot, it ran dry! There may be small pits that you cannot see with your eye that can cause you problems down the road. $6 for a bearing is cheap compared to the repair on the side of the road

It certainly doesn't hurt to check your bearing and brakes if you haven't in a while. If you are having a problem with one, check all of them.
Having said that, I wonder how many folks worry about their car's bearings as much as their trailer's bearings.

You-Tube has lots of videos on brakes inspections and wheel bearing re-greasing as well. Very easy DIY job. Especially if one wants to save lots of mandatory maintenance dollars.

If you can grease the bearings with a hand pump and buy a $20.00 IR gun at Harbor Freight then repacking once a year regardless of miles towed (most don't tow 12,000/miles a year) is a waste of time and money. I would agree an inspection every couple of years is reasonable.

I'd just replace the seal if inspection of bearings was ok. Note if it has EZ-Lube axles, be sure to get thue right seals from Dexter. Standard seals will just push out again, so I was told.

I have grease zerks on the ends of the axles. There is a little rubber boot that I can pry out and squirt away. I feel comfortable doing that with the limited miles we put on our trailer each year.

Axle brake inspections and re-greasing is minimum 1 x per year or 12,000 miles (which ever comes first). Since this Trailer hasn't been re-lubricated since last 7 years, I would simply do all 4 hubs NOW.

Pretty good. These bearings are used in cars as well and are in stock at any auto parts store. Bearings, seals, races.

That being said I have extra ones as well.
