Best 245/75 R16 truck tires

And I thought it was only Michelin MH tires that had to be replaced around five years because the sidewall cracks get so deep. Too bad one of the first/best radial tires is now overpriced and one of the worst. I've had good luck with Firestone on my PU and on my DP.

Currently running Yokahamas on my dually. Reasonably priced, quiet ride. I dont put a lot of miles on my truck so they should be good for several years.

I run Cooper tires on my truck. I'd also look at Toyos. I usually want a more aggressive tread as I don't stay on the pavement.

Your profile indicates that your truck is 18 years old. If so, that is really not bad for only 2 sets of tires. I don't like to run mine much more than 6 years each.

The best results that I have had were with Firestone.

Cooper and TOYO have been the two brands that get decent mileage, multiple tread pattern options based on type of driving you do, with no cracking in sidewall, and or blow ups.

One more vote for Cooper. I have the same size and they are 5 years old with minor cracking. I plan to replace them this year due to age.

15-20 year old truck, not sure how many years you expected to get out of tires. Yes michilubes seem to dry rot more/quicker than some, but in your case I wouldn't look for the best tires, I'd look for the cheapest tires if they're going to rot out before they wear out.
On a budget, check Craigslist or as Amazon. May find some takeoffs on CL but 16s have gone by the wayside, about 15 years ago.
Another option is buy a new set of takeoff 17/18/20s (they'll all fit under a 2nd gen 4x4, if you have 2wd stay with 265-70-17 as the biggest). There are piles of new Ram takeoff wheels and tires for less than $1000 around here. Plus you get the advantage of ditching the old 16s.
If buying just tires, you can find a bunch on Amazon LT245 or 265 for $100-150 a piece shipped.

Do you ever run yours over 6 years? Some people have told me that Michelins are very good for up to 6 years but show a lot of dryrot after that. If fact, when I had a 7 year old Michelin suffer from explosive failure and returned it to Michelin for analysis their official response was that nobody in their right mind would run a tire over 6 years and they would not accept any responsibility for me having done so. Over the years I have come to agree with them but my complaint was that I have never seen that they have made any attempt to communicate that to the public but insisted that I should have known it anyway. The QC manager at Michelin also told me that he had seen a lot of problems with RV's that were parked loaded heavy for extended periods. Since then I have always tried to take a lot of the weight off of my tires when parked, especially for extended periods.

The op's profile says that he has a "Tow vehicle 1999 Dodge 2500 4X4, SRW, 5.9 Cummins" indicating that it is roughly 18 years old so he must be averaging 9 years per tire set. If so, I would say that is his real problem. I would just wish that the tire manufacturers would come up with some definition of how many years a tire should last and stick with it, even if the tire has never been sold and is still on a rack somewhere as a new tire.
