Your diesel should pull that TT nicely. I would search here and elsewhere before buying a new or newer diesel....they all seem to have issues with the new emissions requirements with DEF, EGR, DPF, Bosch CP4 high pressure fuel pumps, etc etc etc.
What he said... Give your current truck some TLC..., detail, wax, maybe upholstery. Get new shocks, refresh the suspension components, if you have to have "more power" add a chip. But, be careful or you will need to build the transmission.
I bought a 2008 Chevy 2500/diesel new, ignorant of the brand new emission devices... Sofar I've had no issues, but my catalytic converter and DPF "fell off". I've retuned the computer so it doesn't look for the emission components. Now frowned upon by EPA.
The new trucks, whatever flavor are pulling beasts, but, the emissions controls are still an evolving science. There are horror stories out there, not just pickups, but heavy hauling trucks.
Caterpillar quit making over the road engines for a few years... I'm not sure if they are back in the business yet or not.
If I had a 2000 - 2006 diesel I'd try to drive it for a couple of years until they master the new emissions standards.
I remember when the gas engines were first required to reduce emissions... Mileage dropped, reliability issues, etc. Now, we wouldn't go back to carbs, points, and condensers... But, it took 10 years to get it right?
