Bigfoot 30c10.11 SL Sag & Slideout Gap

Hi All -

First post here.

I am the new-to-me owner of a 2003 Bigfoot 30c10.11 SL camper. When the slideout closes, it leaves a 1" gap at the top/rear of the slide, where I think water could get in. The issue appears to be at least partially a result of the fact that the back of the camper sags down about 1" when the camper is on my truck. I don't see any evidence of dry rot or other water intrusion. Looks like a design issue: just too much weight back there.

For a short-term fix, I'm adding a slide-topper. Was also considering slide-locks to help close the gap at the top so at least it seals.

Anyone else have this issue with either the slideout not closing all the way or the camper sagging in the back? Any more long-term fixes? Steel reinforcement of the frame somehow?

Thanks!

.

  • wow ok thanks for the info 54suds! I saw the same year/model camper as mine at a gas station the other day and his slide was hanging out like 4+ inches at the top, made mine look like no big deal. I want to stop it from getting like that.

The last repair you mentioned: adding a beam from the front to rear along the basement, sounds like a possible DIY repair. Drop the undercarriage and bold a steel beam down the length of the camper. Next time it;s off the tuck I'll get under there and see what my access looks like.

Also just found this novel approach, which might be applicable with a few alterations: http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/24168018.cfm

i took it into an RV repair place this week (Apache Camping Center in Portland, OR) after waiting over a month for the appointment and they just said sorry, nothing we can do about it.

    Thanks!!

  • this is a very common problem with bigfoot 3000 series and the 2500 series (side wall separation caused by rear sag) series two of my earlier Bf's were sent back to the factory for repairs and I owned two others that had the repairs done . Two had metal lattice beams added to the basement and along slideout/dinette interior platform edge extending into into the bath wall and then these were bolted together.
Another had a microlam beam fitted in the basement along side the fiberglass basement and a third had its tanks modified and a 1 7/8 microlam fitted from the front to the rear of the tc along interior basement wall on the drivers side the tc
How the repair is done depends on the placement of the black & gray tanks .

  • Welcome to the Forum.

I am not familiar with the 2003 Bigfoot 10c10.11 SL camper. Do you have photos?
