I have a 1993 Chevy G20 that has been great for towing our small camper. Recently the check engine light came on and it was for the brake light switch showing low voltage. So I replaced it today and now the brake lights will only come on when I activate the brake controller for the trailer. I have disconnected the brake controller completely and still have no brake lights when I push on the brake. The controller and brake lights worked fine prior to this issue. It is a simple part to replace as it has two plugs and that is it. I do still have power to the switch and continuity to the fuse. I even put in the old switch to see if the lights work and they don't. I have tested the new switch and it is working as it should. Did a continuity test across the leads and pushed the button in and out and it works fine. Any help will be great. I need to get back on the road today. I might also mention that the hazards are not working either.

Make sure the new switch is traveling enough to engage contacts. It maybe a simply as adjusting the switch.Note long threads to adjust.Brake light switch

I tried the switch with it in my hand and not attached to the vehicle and pushed and released the button and nothing. I might mention that my turn signals work and also my lights when I turn on the headlights. Only the brake lights when I try to use the brake light switch is not working. I find it interesting that the controller will turn on the lights when I use the manual brake slide on the controller.

Have you checked the fuse?Connectors plugged into correct receptacle?

The brake light circuit passes through the turn signal switch assembly on the steering column. Check the connector at the base of the steering column.

It could be for ABS and the high mount brake light.

I went out and got my owner's manual. Yours sounds very similar to mine. To the right of the fuse two spaces on mine is a main circuit breaker that feeds the stop hazard. Check to see if it is warm, pull it out and check for incoming power there. Plug it back in and see if it reset itself.
There could be a broken wire in back of the fuse block. I could not see tonight on how to pull cover off to expose the buss work behind the fuses.

The fuse block is under the dash to the left of the brake peddle. I decided to take out the fuse and test the hot side and I still done get power unless i turn on the key. So to me it says there is an issue from the panel back to the battery somewhere. The fuse for the brakes is the bottom most fuse on the left. That is the one labeled brakes. I am wondering if the fuse is miss labeled, but this is the fuse i get continuity to off the orange wire going to the brake light switch. If you have any more input, please let me know

Is your fuse block located on the end of the dash by the drivers door or is it under the dash? I saw both kinds on an internet search. One says there is a block under hood drivers side where the wiring goes through firewall.

I checked other all time hot fuses and they are fine. There is only the one fuse block. I have looked for one under the hood and nothing. I even disconnected the brake controller to see if it was feeding back and nothing.

Drawings I found were no help. My rig is P chassis so it is a little different. It has two 30 amp green circuit breakers, one feeds hot all the time and one is switched.
Check other items that are suppose to be hot all the time, Interior lights? dash lights?
Next area to check which is a real pain is near the starter battery terminal. There is fuse links. mine has one to feed fuse block under dash.
Does your rig have another fuse block under the hood?
