With your brake fluid being 5 years old, I would definitely replace it. Brake fluid is cheap.
There are a lot of good brake pads out there. More and more vehicles come equipped with ceramic pads these days. They are quieter and generate less dust than semi-metallic. Semi-metallic have great bite, but are tough on rotors.
As far as what brand, Power Stop makes good pads. FYI, Wagner’s “latest and greatest” ceramic pad is the OEX. Wagner Thermoquiets are a proven product though.
I would make 2 suggestions. If you don’t know much about brake systems, watch a how-to video such as
this one by ChrisFix. It would be good to find one on replacing brake calipers as well. Even though your having them done, you’re less likely to be taken advantage of if you can show you understand brake systems. The other thing I would suggest would be to go to
rockauto.com and look up brake pads for your truck. The best ones tend to be towards the bottom on this site. Best sellers are marked with a heart.
