Bubbles Behind Decals

How do you repair bubbles behind the decals? They do not feel like they are filled with moisture, but feel almost crunchy when mashed. Thanks for any advice.

  • New decals for the side of my trailer weren't very expensive at all. Maybe $20-30 each. Whoever paid $275.00 each got taken. If the bubbles are small just leave it parked in the sun, they'll go away on their own in time.

  • Just before we decided to move from our ROO HTT to our new TT, we ordered a new decal for the rear bunkend. Our trailer is stored undercover 24/7, but this one section was in the sun all day. I ordered it from FR and it was right at $50 - can't recall if that included shipping or not. Replacing it is not a hard job. A hair dryer to loosen the old one and just peel it off slowly. Clean the area with paint thinner or whatever the mfg suggests, rinse well and dry. You'll likely have a shadowy area around the old decal. Mix up a bit of Dawn and water and spread it on the area, position the decal and then GENTLY use either a squeegee or a wallpaper smoothing tool to smooth it out. The soapy water will let you have some time to reposition if you need to. The instructions sent by FR didn't mention the water, just slap it on, but they do it all day long and have plenty of experience. When we had our big boat, the lettering we ordered for the transom said to use soapy water and it worked like a dream. Took me maybe 20 minutes to remove the old decal, DH did the cleaning, rinsing and soapy water thing and then applied the decal. Not much more than half hour or so.

That said....my cousin's DH removed the striping along the entire length of their aluminum sided KZ plus all the other decals and he said it was a PITA. Their trailer was stored outside in full Houston weather for about 7 years when he did this project. If you're at all a DIY, suggest you find out how much $ and if reasonable for you, then at least give the removal a try. If you're nervous about the replacement, then have that done. It's really not a big deal when you get into it.
  • Use a pin or needle to pierce the bubble. Then a credit card to press the air out of the bubble. If it doesn't stick use a hypodermic needle to inject some adhesive.

They are pretty expensive. I had 2 new ones installed at $275 a piece on my old 5th wheel. Had bubbles in them in less than a week. They replaced them and a month later same thing. This was in AZ and SLC UT I never bothered to go back. The decals were paid for by Insurance company.

  • Get a hypodermic needle push in the center of the bubble and pull the air out. Then using a needle dipped in super glue dab some back under the decal and press down gently. That should hold them for a while longer.
  • decals when hot like in the south whee you live, come to think of it the eastern Oregon sun in the summer is about that hot, will cause the decals to bubble or peal off. mine are doing it also on my 09 keystone. I just don't worry about it, it is going to happen where ever you live, only thing you can do is get ahold of your TT company and see if you can get new ones and take the old off or wait until they come completely off then install your new decals.
