Camper black roof
Am looking at a 1999 camper but the roof is all black and if you rub your hands over it all over your hands. I assume it is a rubber roof. I have never seen one that looks like that. What's wrong with it?

- Hard to tell, could be some kind of owner applied coating, or could be a severe case of mold/mildew.
Could you post some pictures? If so you will probably get some more solid opinions. - If you buy it spray it with Wet and Forget. It's amazing.
- It could be truck bed liner material.
Bill - On a 1999 model, probably all the white coating has worn off. I had large black areas on our 96 Southwind. If you rubbed it, your hand was black.
I cleaned it well and coated it with Heng's Rubber Roof coating. It did a great job. - Without pictures it's hard to say what you have.
- What is wet? You would think if it was bed liner it wouldn't think it would come off on your hands. I think it spent most of its life in new Jersey.
- It doesn't look like somebody applied it cause it's to neat. It's not on the trim or anywhere. I would have to go back to take pics and not sure I could load them on here, never tried before.
- If it is the original roof the white part of the rubber might be wore off since it is a 1999.
- A previous owner may have replaced the roof with a sheet of black (standard) EPDM rubber. If you buy it, you can coat the roof with the right white coating.
- I asked an rv tech at a repair shop and he said if it's still in good shape to give it 2coats of finish coat specifically for work roofs. Thanks for all the replys and suggestions.
