Camper to Cab intercom

I think your post got hijacked, getting back to the intercom, it takes two pieces. Did you get the truck half of the intercom system.

If not you'll need to come up with something compatible that's powered by 12 volts or batteries. If it's AM modulated it probably wouldn't be too hard. If it's FM it will be more difficult to find something.

A lot of the cheaper ones were in the unlicensed 27 Mhz band similar to kid's walkie talkies.

The other issue is whether the base portion is solid state or tube.

Somewhere here I have a bunch of old Sam's photo facts from that era that may have the schematics. Get the model info on the unit and I see what I can find.

If you aren't able to get the original working and want to keep the intercom you can buy a $12 pair of FRS radios and modify one to work in the original intercom case.

Interesting project either way.

might check with a place such as radio shack. They might be able to come up with the other half for you. I had one in my first tc and it did work.

The one we had was hard wired. There was a small cable to attach in addition to the main umbilical.

Thanks Joe 417, I will check out the plate on it and let you know what I find, Its just one of many items that I need to work on, The front windows leaked so I need to replace some of the wood panelling, I was able to locate some drip rails that I plan on installing over the windows after I reseal them. Didnt mean to start a fight here, guess some folks take their camping seriously!

I think its a cool Idea to have one. even though we use cell phones and 2way radios. The intercom would be a nice touch. Then I could do like the engineer on the Amtrak, Okay we are now approaching the Grand canyon lol. I believe DW would be ready to skin my head after a few miles of that, I would probably mount a bullhorn on the top where I could yell at the coyotes at night. Don't mean to Hi-jack your thread but I agree with you it does sound like fun.

unfortunately i cant be any help on the intercom for your travel queen. the one i had did not come with that option.

im always a message away if you have any questions you need answered that i might be able to help with that specific camper. its great to see you wanting to find out more and fix the things on that beauty.

When I bought my '72 Amerigo from an RV dealer in 1990 I was pleasantly surprised at some of the items that the PO had left in the camper to make my first TC experience more enjoyable. One of the items was the front part of the intercom to the TC. I new I would never need it but I figured I would go ahead and install it any way.

I works good and the cool part is the wire that hooks up to the dash speaker so the people in the back could listen to whatever radio station you had on.
