Surprisingly, some are NO PET communities - I doubt we'd enjoy those people anyway. Our situation is that we have 4. Some allow 1 or 2, but 4 is a different deal. When you get into the 55+ type living, some things we took for granted are different. No fences, but we can have an electric fence....training time. Obviously, they're concerned about the barking issue, which we fully understand. Then there is "the list", which ours are not on...and I won't even start on my feelings about "the list". But, unless something changes between now and March, we are good in one of the communities we like the most. Fingers crossed that nothing changes between now and then.
We thought we had this done last year and the corporation that owns the community we were looking at that time decreed only 2 dogs per household. Those who were already there or had signed contracts were grandfathered in. We hadn't actually signed, but were still looking at lots and existing homes. So we were SIL. This trip we may have checkbook in hand to make sure this doesn't happen again. DH is VERY nervous about ending up with 2 houses to spend $ on, but we don't want to lose this opportunity, so gotta get a move on with getting this one sold. A bit more stress than ending up with 2 trailers, lol.
Some of the 55+ actually mean that at least one of the couple is 55+ - the other can be younger, but not under 40. Some mean both have to be 55+. Our DS#1 is 52, disabled and has always lived with us. One community wanted to consider him a separate "family" and would have to take it under consideration after meeting him. Made his mom a bit on the irritable side. Fully understand that rules are rules, but some don't allow for common sense. This getting older and trying to make a lifestyle change is not for sissies!
