I have been looking forward to spending a couple of days in RMNP as soon as the snow was off so was able to do that this week. We arrived at Moraine Park around noon on Monday, Memorial Day. We arranged our reservations so that the holiday weekend folks would be on their way home or travels to other points. This is always a great time of year as the snow is still quite heavy in the high country and the streams are running at capacity. The elk are getting ready to calve and the meadows have many animals for easy viewing.Here is a picture of our campsite. We met many friendly campers who were enjoying this early time of year in the park. We consider ourselves to be so luck to only have to travel less than 35 miles to this wonderful area.

Just as an additional note, while looking at Longs Peak (the peak in the picture) a helicopter fly over and made several passes near the peak. When we arrived home we found listening to TV that a hiker is stranded on the peak and is in a difficult position to be rescued. His foolishness will put several more rescuer in serious jeopardy and may cost him his life.

Nice picture and great campsite! I am within proximity of this area as well, live in Broomfield.I was not so fortunate with my camping success, though. We attempted to acquire a camp spot near a lake (Carter Reservoir), figuring that the rain would have sent a few people home early. As it turned out, that was definitely the case but I did not know that the camp hosts are still required to hold their reserved site even though the people who reserved the spot had clearly vacated it. I ended up sleeping for the first time in my camper while it was parked in my driveway. This was not a bad thing in terms of of testing things out and being better prepared for the "Real Thing".I found a few things that need to be addressed including missing items and things that could have been better organized/packed. I also learned that campers can "sway" a bit more than I anticipated while in the overhead are. Q: would a sway bar address this?Cheers,Mike

Mike: I'm not sure what you mean with sway while in overhead. I haven't noticed a lot of movement while in my overhead. There have been times when it is very windy when I have dropped my jacks to stabilize the camper.

Thanks for the tips on the sway, I will try lowering the jacks.

Some day I hope to go to the park in my TC. It's a long day from here and we always stay in a condo or motel in town.

I saw a report on that moron this morning on FOX. I'm sure he cost the taxpayers a small fortune to airlift his **** *** off the mtn. They said he was at 13,000', so I guess he made it across Bolderfield and up through the Keyhole and then got on some ice or something and was about to slide off the backside of the mtn. Quite a few folks have died on Longs Peak, but I think most were from lightning strikes.

RMNP is our favorite NP...so far...have yet to get to Glacier NP.

I drop my jacks to firm up the camper, however my camping is always remote and never on a flat parking pad.

That is tire sidewall flexing and suspension components doing what they do. Dropping the jacks to the ground is the only way to minimize it.

I miss RMNP so much. It's one of our favorite places. We were lucky enough to watch an elk give birth. She didn't know we were there. It was one of the most amazing things we've ever witnessed.

Treasure your moments. It's a majestic place that reminds you of the song "America the Beautiful".

P.S.

Might want to look into Torklift wobble-stopprs. They work great for us. No more sway.
