We towed a 2007 Chevy cruise manual with our 2009 24’ Winnebago. It weighted in around 3100 and towed great I sold it after 7 years and went back to our 2 door wrangler. Too easy to flat tow, I wouldn’t want to deal with a trailer

Weird but certainly possible... I used to have a 2005 Chevy 2500HD, 2WD regular cab work truck with 6.0 gas engine. I had a Maxidump insert installed. Great little landscaping truck but rarely saw over 12 mpg, usually less than 10. I had a 6x12 enclosed trailer that I took to California to pick up some furniture. On the way down, stuck in the right lane doing 55 most of the way, with a strong tailwind, got 15.9 mpg. Best mpg that truck ever got.

I think the "penalty" will be pretty minimal... almost non-existent on flat ground. Hills would drop it a bit. Wind and speed on any day would probably be larger factors.

I see way more than 1-2 mpg drop just towing an empty flatbed trailer that weighs about 4klbs behind gassers. Of course I’ve never hyper miled it to see what I could get the delta down to.
To the OP, I’d look hard at your use and the feasibility,cost and actual convienence of towing a 20’ trailer around behind a 24’ van. The whole point of a B is no toad.
If wants and needs warrant it, 4 down is the way to go. Especially for someone who doesn’t know much about vehicles and towing. Just an added incumbrance.
