carpet bombing

No, this is not WWII, nor Bomber Harris, but it is the tale of two carpets. We remodeled our bedroom including a high bucks, medium pile carpet, and because of all the red dirt around here, and we're in the 'can't-lick-'em-join-'em' school, settled on what I call a Kaibab Brown having traipsed thru the stuff all over the southwest. It's really an Adobe brown with a red tint. Kind of, Kaibab Kamoflage. Just remember, if you can't see it, it's not there. We had a small piece about 4 feet by 7 feet long left over with which I promptly adorned our rear deck entryway. It has made it thru the winter with no dilapidation. Every time I walked out on the deck to obtain more firewood, I walked over it and said to self, "This is nice, but what a waste." Hmm. The old creaky gears started to turn. Our linoleum floor in the TC is getting a little tired, and It's no fun to drop out of the sack on a 10 degree morning to turn on the heater. I said to Jeanie, " What about carpeting the TC with the leftover?" She said O.K., and I immediately set out to make a floor plan of the TC.

Yee gads, this thing is small. When you just see how little floor space your really have it is a shock. So to the job. Make measurements and cut to shape:

with a little help from our neighbor's dog: I had to chase him all over the yard when he picked up my box cutter and thought it was a stick. Luckily, the blade was in.

Vacuum up the crumbs:

Try a test fit. I needed to make the table pedestal cut out on site, then another vacuum with table pedestal hole:

Did I mention how tiny the floor is on this Lancesmallandlite?
Next was to put down some tool drawer rubber anti-slip webbing. I had enough to cover most of the linoleum and then install the carpet, which is now removable for subsequent beating or vacuuming. As I get older i don't want ANYTHING near the stairs to slide or slip.
Here is the finished product: cost $0.00 with what I had laying around and it's ever so comfy on nighttime bare feet.

I did call the carpet place and asked about having the outside of the carpet bound or edged so it would not unravel over time and the man said he could do it but it would have to be sent out to a special machine and be way, way cost prohibitive for what I wanted. He said after a while it would stop shedding. Good enough.
regards, as always, jefe
