I cannot comment on the canvas-replace job... but something else to consider:
If you do decide to do the canvas yourself... do a good thorough inspection where the lift mechanism attaches to the top.
When I had my first pop-up years ago, the structure the contact points was weak from stress and beginning of the wood starting to rot. I did the repairs with the canvas in place as it was still in good shape, but had to work around the canvas.
If you have any rot issues starting, now would be the time to take care of those too while the canvas is out.
