- justafordguyExplorerI replaced front and rear pads on my F250 with Hawk Performance LTS pads and the difference was night and day.It stops better than it did when new. I would recommend them even if you didn't tow.

- myredracerExplorer IIMy BIL owns an auto parts store and a few years ago when we still had our old F150, he recommended ceramic pads and high performance vented rotors and at a could not refuse price so we got them. The braking was much improved. Did about 5K miles of towing a 5K lb TT with the new brakes and had no negatives that I noticed. Ceramic can have issues with heat, brake fade and warping of rotors tho. I think semi-metallic pads would be a better choice than either ceramic or organic-based pads and are a good choice for towing. I'd probably replace the rotors too.

Clamping down the front brakes harder (softer pads) can actually be a bad thing as it has more of a tendency to jack-knife the trailer. And the pads probably would wear out quicker too. - ChooChooMan74ExplorerRegular brakes should do fine. Properly working and adjusted trailer brakes should be more than enough to stop the trailer.
