Changing fuel filters

No problem. After watching a couple youtube vids, I discovered your experience if pretty normal.

What I do, is change the front filter first. Turn the key on, wait about 5 second. Crank for about 2-3 seconds, won't start, turn key off. Repeat: Same thing happens on the second attempt. Usually starts on the third attempt. Repeat process or rear filter.

BTW, you can get the Genuine Fleetguard (Cummins) Stratopore Filters off Amazon for about $78 for the pair.

The filter under the bed is made by RACOR and is relabeled for MOPAR.

Engine mount filter is made by FleetGuard and relabeled for MOPAR.

You can buy RACOR, FleetGuard and MOPAR as they are all OE.

Don't think the RACOR is available as a FleetGuard.

You're correct Cummins, I meant the genuine Mopar OEM fuel filters on Amazon. They come in the Mopar box. Fleetguard/Stratopore is the Oil Filter. I think I paid $12 or so each for those off Amazon. The Mopar oil filter is cheaper as I recall.

Here is what "I" said so you don't have to go back and lOOk.

"Only mistake you may have made is if you did NOT use FleetGuard, MOPAR or RAYCOR filters."

I am sure someone will find fault with the above statement.:R

Otherwise, i see nothing wrong with what happened. Any diesel with an electric pump of some sort will prime itself.

I don't think anyone said he did use sub par. I said "IF" he did that would have been the only mistake he made.

Thanks guys for the replies. I did use mopar. So far it runs great at almost 100 miles now.

Why did 12V state he forgot to use X,Y,oe Z brand filters? I do not see what brand filter the OP used. Hence my where was it stated they used a sub prime or bad quality filter? I see the they did not "prime" the system, which is bad! If I do not do that on my boat diesel or bobcat, I'm screwed. My 6.5, 6.6 or trackhoe it is not a big deal, as those had/Have electric pumps that will fill the filters and remove the air......

Marty, he said he forgot to "Prime" the filters. :)

Previous to common rail, for most diesels one would have to open the fuel system up someplace (crack an injector line) for the air to get purged out even if they had a fuel pump.

If you turned the key on until the pump cuts off twice your good to go.
