Chevy tow/haul question

I am pulling 6,500 pounds with TV in signature. I have pulled with and without tow/haul. The truck does fine with it off.

What would the pros and cons be for my combination?

Which would use less fuel?

My truck is capable of a much heavier load and tow/haul would be used at that heavier load. At 6,500 pounds it isn't even breathing hard.
  • Use it or don’t. Doesn’t matter with that load, except downhills will be even easier with TH engaged.
  • Gas is cheaper and can be picked up at my convenience; torque converters a different story.
    Use your tow/haul.
  • Not sure about the newer Silverados but the older ones had to have the tow/haul button on to energize the 12V charge pin on the trailer connector.
  • My best answer is if it is more important that you get the best life out of your truck's drive train components then use tow/haul when towing your trailer. If it's more important to save a few dollars in fuel during a towing event then don't use it.

While a 6,500 pound trailer isn't approaching your truck's towing capacity, it is still a significant amount of weight/wind resistance that puts a burden on the drive train more than running empty.

Thanks for the tip, I will check on that.
  • I run TH any time I'm towing or hauling, sometimes even when not. The most important feature for me is the automatic downshifting when stopping. It really helps and saves on brakes. My factory original brake pads lasted almost 200,000 miles. When I'm towing I really don't give **** about the mileage. I want the truck to be safe, easy and comfortable to drive, have all the components last a long long time, and to keep up with traffic so I'm not a hazard to other drivers. I generally engage T/H and put the cruise on the speed limit.
I honestly can't think of any good reason NOT to use T/H.
