We just spent a week in front of a family members house like you are doing. Their city has no restriction on it, so it was not an issue. I will say the suggestions to go use a campground or rent a motel might be possible, but are no way even similar to being out front. The whole point is to be right there. Hang out all day/night, walk out and go to sleep.
My city has restrictions on this too, in direct response to homelessness. I see where they are coming from, but tend to agree with Eric & Lisa that it is just moving the problem to somewhere else. It's a bummer for my in laws (retired, come up to visit their grandkids quite a bit) who have a motorhome they would love to stay in instead of being cramped inside our house. But because of a steep driveway and laws against parking an RV on the road, it just cannot be done.
