How is 199 from Crescent City to Grants Pass in winter

We are thinking about going down the Oregon Coast this coming winter and thought about coming home via I5 and then DH mentioned we might not want to try 199 at that time of year. We have a Class C
It looks as if Or 42 might be our only other alternative

Thanks, we will be in no particular hurry so if I can out wait the bad weather, that will work. Thanks everyone.

199 will be plowed and sanded as needed, but good idea to let the storm clear.

It doesn't happen every year but it can snow and stick to the road all the way to 101 and the ocean.

Yes 199 can be icy and have chain requirements. If I had to pick my route now, and not wait til the time comes and see if it's clear an dry, I would go north on 101 to eithere 42 or 38.

Any of the roads can be icy in the winter, check the weather before you leave and than take the best way or wait until it clears up.
I have been on all those roads in the winter and never had to chain up except on I5.
