Parked at moms this Christmas and visited untill bedtime. Spent the night in the camper and learned today that is NOT ok. Not sure what we will do now though it seems if we unplug and run the slid...

Not at all. We had no idea this was against any rule at all. We wanted to be close to mom and dad while we visited and thought this was perfectly legal. We've done it many places and it's always been ok.
Now, here we are reading a code which clearly was written for vagrants and asking if maybe something should change. The beauty of America is that we have a right to speak freely and protest.
Now, having been advised by an official we are trying to meet his request and advice and I suspect he is happy with that or would have come back and said something. Again, we are not in the camper right now but do use it for our stuff etc and keep it low key as he said to do.
But the point here is that you have the right to question laws and should. We did and I hope they change it for the better
