I just had an oil change done on my truck. Chevron Delo 400 SDE CK-4/SN oil.
It says on the jug that it meets Cummins specifications.
In fact, it meets nearly every engine manufacturer's specs EXCEPT Ford!
Fact is Delo engine oil never met Fords internal oil specification which has been around for years.
Just be aware that the Delo has a maximum of 800PPM of Zinc and Phos due to the API SN gas rating.- mowermechExplorerI just had an oil change done on my truck. Chevron Delo 400 SDE CK-4/SN oil.

Great info Fish, but you didn't answer my question. :B
Is there the possibility that Ford issued this bulletin as a CYA attempt of a weak spot in the 6.7L engine? I'm not trying to be a smart a$$; I just find it odd that no other manufacturer has done this if it truly is that big of an issue. :?
I believe Ford did this to protects it's customers. Ford stated this is a long term issue and if its a CYA move why would they worry since I'm certain the engines would have gone past the 100k mile warranty and they also stated they didn't recommend this oil in any Power Stroke which we all know the 7.3,6.0, and 6.4 are all out of warranty.
I've also read that another engine manufacturer may join ranks but I won't break any news on this topic.
Gotcha, thanks.
Also, are you doing OK? It's not like you to not break open news! :B
Well it's better to break news than break wind!
You can bet it's not the big C or there would have been a link posted in extra large font! - ParkCountryExplorer

Hoo, boy! Didn't even think about that! Great observation! I sure hope you're wrong! - blofgrenExplorer

chevman - Charlie_D_ExplorerQuestion: What is considered acceptable Zinc levels in oil when new? I understand that it changes based upon mileage, tempos (?), duration and a number of other reasons.
Perhaps it is too early to know at this time but are there reasonable numbers based upon average miles and duration used. I.E. Blackstone uses "universal averages" on their samples and I believe that is based upon a vehicle with the same miles, hours, usage etc. (?). blofgren wrote:

I must say I'm very happy to finally not own a diesel that requires this very specific oil (others will cause rough running and/or injector damage), coolant additives, fuel additives to hopefully keep the CP4 happy, etc. Kind of like feeling good about cutting ties with that hot but high maintenance blond girlfriend! Lol! :B
Have you been drinking the ethanol or just simply burning it in the engine?
The problem being discussed here is the fact that government regulations have forced the reduction of anti-wear additives from motor oil. Kinda like forcing the use of ethanol to lower your fuel mileage.
Folks that speak of past experiences have not come to grips with the current reality. The wear problem was not an issue just six months ago.
What other engine manufacturer other than Ford has issued a warning about this?
What other engine manufacturer has required a special oil at $60/gallon when your girlfriend needs an enama :B to clean the carbon build up behind the rings due to EGR and causes ring jacking and loss of compression and a host of other problematic issues.
Lighten up Francis... Ford just issued a warning that some CK4 oils have caused some long term wear issue. The use of any CK4 oil that's not SN rated should be good for hundreds of thousands of miles. Let's talk when you at least have 100k trouble free miles and by then I'll probably have 200k plus.
