Cleaning rubber roof ?

Good morning-

Quick question, what is better to clean the top of your roof? should I get the one step which is cleaner and conditioner in one. Or the cleaner by it self, and then the conditioner?:@

Thank you folks...
  • Spik & span, Murphys Oil Soap, Dawn, or any other product that does not contain citric acid or petroleum distillates. Forget the conditioner, waste of time and money.
  • I would follow roof manufacturer instructions. I. Have EDPM rubber roof and only clean with mild detergent and medium brush 2-3x yr. If mold develops, I add a little bleach to the soap solution. I use hand scrub brush on all caulking to clean real well and also allows me to get good inspection on all caulk for cracks/voids and then reapply new caulk as needed. I see no need to condition it. It is a rubber membrane which is designed for uv exposure. Just keep it clean and keep gutters clear.
  • Many RVers including me just wash the roof with a soft bristle long handle brush that connect to a garden hose. That's all I've done to the roof since the RV was new 20 years ago.

It did show signs of wear last year so I had the roof coated with a liquid EDPM product. It now looks brand new again.
  • You should follow the manufacturers recommendations. It will not be the same for every RV.
