Well, on a Platinum, you get a lot of the "shiny stuff" standard that make the towing experience much more enjoyable. Things that would be harder to find on a used XL or XLT model such as Heated Telescoping Tow mirrors, larger screen for Nav and backup camera, heated and cooled power leather seats etc.
Perhaps the original poster was simply being trim level specific so as to get the closest comparison to the truck he had in mind?
Buying a 2015 model he'll be able to get a lot more "shiny stuff" for his money vs a new model.
