Put more water in to start with… before flushing…

That is sorta normal for those type toilets. It annoyed me, too, not to mention being a bit of a pain in the kiester to keep clean. So one day I was at Lowe's/Home Depot and saw a hand bidet for $50. It is essentially a kitchen hand sprayer thing that you tap into the water line to the toilet, and it is intended for washing your butt off after doing your business. But it also works wonderfully for hosing down the inside of the toilet bowl to get IT clean, too.

Not sure which model toilet you have but for my Dometic you have to lift the foot flush to add water, press down to flush.

Press the lever down half way before using the toilet. This will add water to the bowl without flushing and will help keep the solids from sticking to the bowl.

Agree with above, not enough water before you begin the fill process. Pictures should not be necessary, but if you take them, who is the lucky recipient?:) Just kidding. If the trailer is permanently parked, it may be a bad idea to leave the drain valve outside open. It needs lots of water and flow to empty properly. If it is just one person, he should be able to go quite some time between dumps. Also, rinse well after dumping. (the tanks that is)

Step 1: enter potty room
Step 2: lift potty lid
Step 3: depress foot pedal till water fills bowl approximately 1/3
Step 4: drop drawers do business
Step 5: finish with paper work
Step 6: pull em up
Step 7: step firmly on potty pedal
Step 8: lower potty lid
Step 9: exit


Even when connected to sewer BLACK TANK valve should be closed till tank is full. Failure to do so will eventually produce the dreaded pyramid of poo.

You guys are so funny. I am in tears laughing at campigloo and stickdog. I think they meant a PITCHER of water; really we don't want any PICTURES. OK, here goes: we learned years ago from full time RVers that you don't be throwing any paper products down the toilet. Hmmmm I know it is really weird and took us a while to "digest" that, but you throw it in a lined wastebasket and take the trash out daily. Just eliminates another headache down the line. HOWEVER, each to his own, right!

The other trick is that if you do put paper into the toilet, you bunch it up and place it into the center of the toilet. If you let it drop on the side of the toilet, it will stick.

Then wash your hands. ;)

As others have said, you need to use flush lever to fill bowl with water before using. On some models you press the lever down part way and others you lift up on lever to fill bowl. In either case you should keep water in bowl between uses. This will help keep odors and gases from escaping as well as keep seals from drying out. It has also been mentioned that the dump valve should be kept closed until the holding tank is close to full (2/3 or more). At that point he just needs to go out an pull the lever to dump black tank. After dumping and closing valve add a few gallons of water through toilet into tank. Toilet paper is not a problem.

We did the same thing with our trailer for our daughter while she attended grad school. Worked out really well for her and us both. Once she got settled she preferred it to both the dorms and apartment she had been in previously. In our case her mother also was traveling to the area every month or two for business and so it gave her a place to stay as well. When I visited I would rinse the tanks and check propane etc. for her. Fortunately it was only a couple of hours away and my schedule was pretty flexible.

I lived in Brazil for 2 years and they do that. It's disgusting. It also smells up the bathroom. I will throw my waste products down the chute.

When using a trailer toilet, you must add water before non-liquid waste is added. On foot flush toilets, depress the pedal half way. On hand flush toilets, pull only the water lever to add water.
