I think this subject is very important...
just hiking the appalician trail or at a popular spot along a trail in the west.... there are places that there are so much toilet paper showing above the cat holes that it looks like brown and red streaked snow.... watch where you step... and OMG the smells are horriable. Many place ban how close we can tent camp to streams
I am sure that all of us would dispose of our waste in a responsible manner... and know what that is... and if we have the right method available.
We all know... Our human waste can cause major problems... just washing our hands is critical to keep from making others sick with
Escherichia Coli when we handle their food.
Question: What is Escherichia coli, or E. coli?
Answer:... E. coli are common, normally benign intestinal bacteria found in humans and animals, and play an important role in digestive systems. There are many different kinds of the bacteria, and only small number of the kinds can make people sick. The strain identified as connected with the chicken salad outbreak recently at Cosco is known as O157-H7, and it produces produces a powerful toxin known as Shiga that can cause bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramps and in some cases death. The O157 bacteria is virulent and tough and only a few are needed to cause illness. It's also the most commonly known to cause food-borne illness outbreaks
That said... Federal officials say an estimated 48 million people get sick from eating contaminated food annually, with about 3,000 deaths and 125,000 hospitalizations, costing our economy $14.1 billion annually. The biggest E. coli outbreak this year has been linked to Chipotle stores, with 45 people sickened in six states, federal officials say. That outbreak was caused by a different kind of E. coli contamination than the one at Cosco.Mother Earth News has a good article.... where the talk about allowing the problems and the good points. they call for the solids to be seasoned for a year before it is added to garden compost and the urine to be seasoned for a month before it is disposed of anywhere.
Just how long can a system in a truck camper hold the human waste before disposing of it?
Please think about the antibioics and other medicines we take... our municipal sewer plants have a world of trouble with them....
E Coli
any thoughts?
