WE just went thru that with the truck ... sent exact details via email, with an explanation that due to my back and knee injuries, it's impractical to travel to a variety of dealers and go through the motions for "the price dance" ...
We explained that we would complete our transaction completely via the email, and would bring a check in when we picked up our truck. Some dealers responded with phone calls and continuously wanted us to come in a talk, work up a price, etc. They don't need us sitting there to do that, and we knew exactly what options and which truck. Some responded, some didn't ... one guy gave all the information we asked for, and more ... including a detailed equipment and price (sell price, not come and haggle price) ... We drove 200 miles, brought in a check never having met the guy, and bought the truck ...
We're now doing the same process for an SUV family car. The internet is a very powerful tool -- some use it, some don't, some still feel car sales is 'bring the customer in and beat him down until he buys it."
Car/truck dealers that refuse to disclose selling terms via email will lose sales in the future too ... it's no longer the way vehicle buying is done. IN our opinion, it works and will work, and waste less time on both ends of the transaction. If a salesman doesn't respond to my emails, he's fall out of my loop immediately. We don't have the time nor the inclination to spend days and days beating that horse ...
One salesman continued calling daily, at odd hours, after we explained our strategy and offered him to respond email. He called so many times after us asking him to stop, we had to call the sales manager to order him to delete our number... bizarre ...
