I'm thinking about buying a 2005 Chevy 2500 4WD Silverado Crew Cab LS Diesel. It has a Duramax Motor All I know at this point is GVWR 9200, GAWR front 4670, GAWR rear 6084.It will be pulling a Keystone Sprinter 333FL 5th Wheel. The Empty weight is 9526, Carrying Capacity is 3224, Hitch weight is 1875.Between selling the house and buying a truck and 5th Wheel to go fulltime, My brain is fried trying to figure this out. Please HelpWill this truck pull and stop safely for us?

Yes. Just keep an eye on the engine temp gauge. That model was prone to running warm when worked hard.Google "LLY OVERHEAT" for more info and judge for yourself.

That affects the 2004.5 and 2005 Duramax trucks.

Buy a scanguage11 and it will give the correct water temperature number.chevman

You may have up to 2500 lbs pin weight when loaded. Most likely your rear axle weight is around 3000 lbs empty. The axle can handle over 9000 lbs, but the springs and wheels are limiting the rating. I would not have a problem towing that FW with your truck but would watch rear axle weight and possibly go to higher rated rims and tires if you get close.

You also didn't get the payload for the truck. That 5er will likely put you over the GVWR of your truck, should be within the axles ratings, as your rear axle is the same as mine and I carry a 2,000# pin and have about 634# of spare capacity on the rear axle (carry 5,450 on rear axle), that said last scale the truck scaled at 10,000#. :E

GVWR 9,200 says it is a HD

A regular 2500 should have a 8,600 GVWR...unless they have changed that again...

Bought my second 12V earlier this year with 313K runs great!

My original 12V had 150K before it fully broke in. Mileage finally stopped improving at that point.

Absolutely!

That second truck will be a much better choice even with the 143k miles...it should last well beyond that mileage.

Do yourself a favor though, make sure and pay an independent mechanic to do the once over on it to make sure a previous owner didn't monkey with it or let maintenance go. Having that data is also useful as a bargaining tool in the event it is uncovered that something minor needs repair.

Per your questions about the truck stopping the trailer...each trailer should have adequate brakes that will stop the added weight of the trailer. If you are buying used, also a good idea to have the trailer brakes inspected along with the wheel bearings greased. Equally important is making sure the brake controller is set correctly. Given all that, either truck will safely stop the trailer.

Now, exhaust braking is different.

He is looking at a Cummins, that engine is just past break in! :B

I didn't think twice about buying a Ram with 234,000 miles, (One Owner). We are currently at 277,000 and going strong. We pull and carry a 5er the same size as you are looking at, you will not have any issues with power or longevity.
