don't get a 2500 duramax.....get a srw 3500
Based on the GM towing guide for a Regular cab, SRW, diesel, 4X4 I would loose 100 pounds towing capacity by going to a 3500 vs. a 2500. For the added cost it doesn't make sense to me IMHO.
Diesels are way cheaper overall if you are doing serious towing. I would have broken 2 gas trucks by now and my 06 diesel is still just purring along. The cost per year of maintence on gas vs diesel is about the same. Diesel more per oil change but less of them
Your quote about towing capacity 3/4 vs 1 ton SRW is nothing but manufactures hype. With SRW vehicles your towing capacity will definitely be limited by payload. 1 ton SRW has more payload than a 3/4 ton therefor more towing capacity. With respect to TT&FW you can't get to the manufacturers towing capacity without exceeding axle ratings generally, with a flat bed trailer hualing bricks maybe but not an RV
LOL @ This.. Broke 2 gas trucks? Seriously? what are they made of paper? What kind of breaking are you talking about? I mean, there are so many threads on the internet about 5.4 gassers, 6.0 gassers, 6.2 gassers, 8.1 gassers, 6.8 gassers, 5.7 HEMI gassers disintegrating under load... and there are many many reports of 300-500k mile gassers still doing their thing under heavy loads.
Best I can tell they both go in the same chassis.
Doubt you would break a modern Gas HD truck.. they still put V10's in MDT's.
You like Diesel.. you want diesel.. thats fine.. but there are MANY MANY MANY gas trucks out there pulling their weight and getting along just fine.

not to mention that on that "more economical" diesel, you are paying interest on about 10-20K more$$$.

I take issue with this as well. If you shop smartly, especially if buying new, you can get this difference WAY WAY down. For instance my local Ram dealer got several truckloads in of the 2500 Ram 4x4 Tradesmen's several months ago. They we selling Hemi Ram's 4x4 crew cabs for mid 30's and Diesels for upper 30's. My math showed less than 5k difference. Not too bad IMHO.
I personally am a gasser... why? It made more financial sense at the time. Both have their place... I think if people would look at their purchase through the lens of sense more gassers would be purchased. But most people look at their HD truck purchase through the lens of want and buy a diesel. Which is fine.
Interesting that the new 6.2 Ford Gasser is rated to around 15k lbs towing. That will cover most of what people tow on this board. My V10 is rated around 13k, that covers most of this board too.
Thanks!
