Bottom line, anyway you want to twist it, $8 is a crazy price for that amount of wood. If they are so worried about the trees in the campground then a sound business plan would be to offer wood at reasonable profit so campers are not apt to sneak wood in. The State allows properly kiln dried and labeled wood to be transported. The campground bans approved wood sold at half the price at a local store? Pure greed "anyway you want to twist it"....

We tried the DF logs in our fireplace some time ago. I would NEVER cook on one of those!

Campfires are optional? Some people think trees, grass, or even any nature at all are optional, too :E

Seems like some would be satisfied with Walmart renting parking spaces with an electrical hookup and call it "camping"

Those who think this kind of stuff is "optional" really do not understand camping, IMHO.

It would be different if you are "RV-ing" and using it as a portable home/hotel/etc. That's a valid use, but really very different from camping.

Agree with Hoosierdaddy47. If you want to camp there, buy firewood or don't buy firewood, but know, if you do, you're being taken. I'd call them on the phone, tell them I would have camped there but for their firewood policy, you will be taking your business elsewhere. Let them know that the word is out on the forums about their misquoting the firewood regulation and gouging their guests. IMO, this isn't about what the market will bear, it is about using deceit to make a buck, no matter how they are rationalizing it.

I normally try to stay emotionally detached when these threads heat up like this, but...remind me not to camp in Montana, where evidently it's perfectly fine to charge 7 bucks a log if you wanna. Listen, the rate for firewood in Upstate New York, where 99% of my camping has been done, has been 4 to 5 dollars for a decent-sized bundle (6-8 logs, often more.). That's our baseline. Were the price to jump 3 dollars across the state, I would chalk that up to New York's economy, suck it up and pony up. If I arrived at a CG that sold firewood at dramatically higher prices than some guy in his yard just up the road, I would likely buy at least some CG firewood just for the convenience. But for a campground owner to wrap themselves in a flawed interpretation of a state regulation is just dishonest. Do they also sell you 20 lbs. of propane, but give you 8? I have no problem with someone setting the price of goods higher than the competition. The market will accept it, or it won't. But to eliminate the competition by misquoting the state is wrong. The ball park analogy is flawed, BTW. You can't bring hot dogs to the game, you can't bring popcorn to the movies (Actually, we do...!). Buy theirs or go without. Whatever. But neither of them is twisting state regs to their own benefit. Greedy, yes. Dishonest, not so much. It's not the money, it's the principle of the thing. I'll shut up now. Carry on.

The original poster's name was Yankeelover. Should he become a Red Sox fan because the price of a Coke and Hot Dog at Yankee Stadium is a whole lot more than at the local 7-11? I haven't been to the New Yankee Stadium, but I am sure it is like most other ball parks, they won't let you bring in your grill, your hotdogs and your cases of cola and beer. You have to buy their concessions, at their prices. Charging what the market will bear and creating a business environment where people have to use your services is what retailers do. You want the Yankees and Yankee Stadium you are going to pay the Yankee Stadium price. It is the way of the world. (I was going to ask if that makes the Steinbrenners evil, but that might have defeated my argument). And by the way, this thread was never about taking his business elsewhere, the poster just wanted to bash the policies the park of his choice has made. Wow, money grabbing CG complaints, don't believe bugs have killed trees, not going to follow any stupid wood bans, I'll sneak my own wood in kept in a RubberMaid Container and put it right on the fire, never mind you have to walk and carry it to the fire. Don't think the bugs can jump off during that part of the trip to the fire?, etc. etc.

CG owners across the US are having to cut down the trees within their CG's due to bug infestation.

Now all the RV'ers are complaining that most CG's have no shade, no trees......well, thank all the above who are non believers, ain't gonna follow no wood ban rules, and sneak wood in across different regions.
