Cummins questions

I picked up my TT today,pulled some pretty good hills,let truck do its thing. Didn't push it. The temp would go past just 200 degrees. It was 92 outside temp. I am guessing this is normal as the temp would go back to just before 2000. This is the first diesel I have ever been around.its A 2006 with 5.9.Thanks

    The tank on a diesel in not sealed like a gas engine. I did 850 miles a few weeks back and never shut the truck off. The tank on the Ram is vented not sealed, that is what caused the CEL on a gas engine.


    I won't be shutting mine down anymore either then. I been cranking it right back up again after fueling and letting it idle to cool a bit more while I go in to pay for the fuel. Since the the truck stops I hit don't generally have a credit card readers at the pump. Good to know that I can just leave it run, thanks for the info.

  • Yep, all normal.
    I don't think an 01 will derate when too hot though.
  • Factory stat is 190deg and the cooling fan fully engages at 217 iirc. Maybe 213.
    Its normal. When you hear the fan roar you know you're finally workin the engine.

  • That is normal when towing. Use the tow/haul mode and keep the revs down around 2,000 rpm.
