Curiosity....Payload/Glove Box Sticker

Just curious

1. Of those who have weighed their rig, how many of you are under and how many are over GVWR all loaded up?

2. How many were under/over their glove box cargo weight rating (adjusted for weight of people actually in vehicle)?

3. What truck/camper combo are you driving?

4. What did you modify on the truck to carry the camper?

5. How is the handling on your vehicle?

6. Have you ever experienced undesirable outcomes from being overloaded?

I will post a tally of the results for everyone's information.

Thanks for your replies!
Tally so far (18 trucks):
53% are over their GVWR, 47% are under their GVWR
63% have modified their truck to better handle the weight.
Of the people who have new trucks on order, they anticipate they will be under weight with their new truck.

  • My door sticker states 9000 lbs. Installed leaf spring to each rear pack, bilstein shocks, air lift 5000 air bags, 1 ton Helwig sway bar because 3/4 2006 Dodge truck is the same as 3500 minus upper overload spring and sway bar. Used to have stock forged aluminum wheels and Nitto 285/75r/17 high load index and weighed 11,400 loaded. Recently upgraded to 19.5 Vision wheels and 19.5 load G tires. Isbram.. You must haul a lot of stuff with that Hallmark to come in 11,500 wet and loaded!!
  • My rig is now about 11,500lbs completely loaded rolling down the road, it reads 8,800lbs on the GVW sticker. I’m still under the Dana axle weight ratings both front and rear.
The weakest link was the stock tire/ wheel combination, but it was the last thing I changed out. Until I ran it over the scale I had no idea how heavy it really was.
It now rides and drives great even on curvy mountain roads and the attitude is just slightly higher in the rear, as it should be.

I added 19.5 wheels and tires, Air lift 5000 airbags, Stable Loads, Bilstein 4600 shocks, Front and rear Roadmaster Anti Sway Bars.
  • I am over my gvwr . Driving a 2500 Silveraod with duramax and allison. Installed new tires and rims to cover the weight carried. Also have adjustable stable loads and timbren SES. run tires at 80#
