  • glad you got a local dealer to deal with you.
i wasn't so lucky when i was shopping for my Roo.:(
  • Thanks to this forum, the dealer dropped almost $2K off the price and upgraded the wdh i wanted...i used the rv direct rvw pricing to negotiate (RV Direct was 19500 + WDH + Fuel to pick it up +TTL = 22K)(RVW 20500 + WDH + FUEL + TTL = 23K) (MY DEAL $22.5K out the door) The sales guy and i went back several times before he agreed to the price.
  • Should be able to get it for under $20,000 which would be 25% off. 30%+ off MSRP isn't uncommon. Much more markup on trailers than on cars. Don't let them add high $'s for PDI, prep or dealer doc fees. State that your offer includes these.
  • I agree with Bikendan.

When I bought my Jayco I had a quote from RV Direct. Then I went to the dealer to look at the same model and told them that if they would match the quote I had, I would write a check right then. They did and since it was January and there was snow on the ground, they even stored it on their lot until the end of March free of charge.

The quote I had was 31% off the sticker price on the dealers lot.
  • Caveat with RVWholesalers pricing is there in about $0 in freight in their prices as they pick up the trailers at the factory themselves (or used to). Very minimum cost for freight.

Price the RVWholesalers DELIVERED price to you for a fair comparison. Or make the all-interstate drive up to Lakeview Ohio and pick up the camper yourself.

The local Jayco dealer handles my Roo maintenance. He knows I didn't buy it there! :)

  • Too high. As suggested, go online to RVWholesalers - where we've bought both our HTT and our new TT, and also RVDirect. RVW does not post their prices, but will email them to you. Example: our new Rockwood Ultra Lite 2604 had an MSRP of just over $31,000. We paid $20,000 and change. You should be looking closer to the 30% discount. Granted, it was a 2013, but happened to be just the interior and features we wanted and didn't mind that the 2014s were coming in the door.

Negotiating is a huge PITA! Whether you would remotely consider the drive from your area to Lakeview, OH to RVW, print out their information and take the quote to the dealer you're talking to. You're going to hear about horror stories about not being able to get service and blah, blah.....not true and you can certainly tell him you know people who have bought there and have received local service....US! Among others.

We have a dealer about 15 miles from us where we saw the HTT and fell in love. Of course, he was practically giving us the trailer and no one could possibly meet or beat his price and so on. When in fact, after expenses to pick up our HTT in OH, we saved over $4000 over the guy right here. In fact, he was the one to handle the service we needed...a Dometic refrig recall and he knew full well where our trailer came from. But he's going to get paid by somebody and likely doesn't care who it is....this time it was Dometic.

Do lots of online homework and go prepared with documentation in hand. He'll either be interested in selling it to you or not. One thing you can ask to have included is a WDH with sway. And not Brand X.....ask for recommendations and give him a choice of those only.

Someone on this forum and in your area was just looking at that model - think they decided on another one, but hopefully he'll come in with some local info for you. That's a great HTT. But you need a LOT better price.
  • The best advice regarding negotiations was given to me years ago by a self-made multi-millionaire: “He who cares less….wins.” It works with anything you buy/sell where there are negotiations.

    Here is an example:
Upon selling a business, the buyer tried to lower the price $10,000 at the closing! I refused, said I would keep the business and started to leave. The buyer quickly reversed course and wanted to buy at the previously agreed price. I wasn’t having that. Before I sat back down, they had to agree to pay $10,000 MORE. I really did not care and it worked. They paid dearly for their last minute games.

Be ready to walk. If that camper you absolutely love is at a dealer you that won’t give you a deal, remember, there are more dealers out there carrying that exact same unit.

30% off MSRP is a very common number.
  • I appreciate both responses, and both are good ideas and I can combine them. When I put the options on RVW it was $1,400 cheaper than the price he gave me. I will call/email him and tell him I want it at that price....

    Keep the suggestions coming
  • get a price on the Shamrock's twin brand, the Rockwood Roo 23IKSS from RVW and RVDirect. these two have sent the standard for prices on Forest River products.
go to their websites and get a quote for a similar-equipped Roo and do what we all did, use those prices to negotiate and compare.
neither have any hidden costs and the price they quote you, is the price you pay.
  • See how this works for you. When I see an RV I really like and want I try not to show that much interest. Tell the dealer about bad points only. Give them your business card and try to be personable with sales person. A week or two later give them a call on phone. Tell them there is about two or three RVs that you have looked at. I would be willing to offer (make an offer 30% off msrp). Give me a call if you can accept the offer. On the phone you are not their captive audience. They have to decide. Take your deal or lose the sale to another dealer. Works for me. Don't put up with their sales bull. If you offer to sell something for $100 and I offer you $10. The sales person will act offended. Too bad that is my offer. JMHO
