My Goodyear Marathon ST load range B were 10 years old when I replaced them. I only replaced them because when the trailer was fully loaded, it weighed more then the four tires maximum rating combined. The manufacturer was subtracting the tongue weight in order to put the lowest rated tire on the rig (cheapest cost). Essentially they gave me no safety margin, and in theory every bounce caused the weight rating to be far exceeded.I replaced with Goodyear Marathon ST load range C tires, now I have a safety margin.
Right or wrong this is a standard practice with RV's. It is my understanding that tire (and axle) load ratings are not a static rating but are a dynamic rating that take into account the stresses or day to day driving while at max load.
Understood.
I just didn't like the idea of the total trailer weight divided by 5 points of contact (tongue, wheel, wheel, wheel, wheel)
I prefer the safety margin of dividing the total trailer weight by 4 points of contact (all four wheels)
But back on topic... my Marathons lasted without issue for 10 years.
