Diesel Brothers

Besides 'rolling coal' for no reason other than pumping up testosterone levels, my other pet peeve is the light bars that 'posers' are installing on their jacked up coal rollers...

Another libido increaser I guess. They plainly state on the packaging, and in the instructions included that 'this product is intended for off road use only', but they no one reads instructions today and no one pays any attention to any warning about intended use, not that the poser trucks ever go off road anyway, 'cause they might get dirty.

Nothing better than approaching an oncoming poser truck with that light bar cooking your eyeballs out so you cannot see anything, very safe, very considerate isn't it?

I have the solution though, I have one as well but I'm considerate of others. However when I am approaching an oncoming poser, I'll flash my high beams and if the don't turn their off, I give them a taste of their own 'medicine'. Amazing how fast they extinguish their 'macho off road light bar' when I fry their eye balls. I have a set of KC Daylighters as well for those 'stubborn' idiots.

Some of you grinches should be ashamed.
It's a bad day, when such wholesome, family friendly, and rather technical entertainment providers are getting BBQd for what?
Having cool trucks?
Being cool guys?
Making too much money?

The sentiment here is jealousy, or just a general distaste for anything that isn't milquetoast.

I understand the EPAs position....as much of a farce as the EPA is. However I don't support it.
So the ones complaining about this aren't fans of monster trucks. Well plenty of people are. #monsterjam is bigger than ever.
I'm not a fan of watching re-runs of Matlock and Murder she Wrote, lol. Or cruises, or golf or pinochle. Or casinos or book clubs. But I support your right to do whatever makes you happy.

Me, my son, and friends burned about $250 in leaded fuel today. AV and race gas. Guess I should get fined too, doing what I like and minding my own business.

Second set of CATs and with the OEM CATs had an even lower levels. These are 'rebuilt' (but on the Calif approved list) and will go OEM on the 3rd set, which will be several hundred bucks more

Since am still noodling the rebuild of my Suburban, this is an important area of consideration.

Giving up on any aftermarket direct injection heads and will go OEM port injection. Though matched and tuned spider injectors will have to do. Maybe higher rate injectors, if they have any

The biggest concern right now is upping the static compression to 9.2-9.4, from OEM static of 8.5. Am okay with having to run +90 octane, but it has to pass Calif SMOG. To date, can NOT find a builder who will give a good answer on the amount of overlap for the cam and still pass SMOG. So presently looking at a 280 cam as the max

Just curious how the diesel's of today are running and of course, understand that my 24 year old big block will never be close...just good enough for me. Going 5.38's for both diff's will help and can't find 5.38's for the front diff...yet

I never grasp why vehicles were desiged to one level and then detuned versus just being designed to the desired level in the first place?

The funner part is that tuned direct injected gas engines put out way more PM and CO2 than deleted diesels, but no body cares because you cannot see it.

Im not particularly a tree hugger, but I would agree with keeping a vehicle unmodified, at least for emmissions. I cant comment on a tuned direct injected gas engine putting out more PM than a deleted diesel, but with diesels CO2 isnt the issue, NOx is.

But it was well deserved.

Took our then-TV up Going to the Sun Road in Glacier NP. It was a 2005 Jeep Liberty diesel. That road is always nearly bumper to bumper and 20-30 mph, very crowded. Reached the peak, looked around, hiked, etc. Then started the drive back to camp. That road is fairly steep, something like 25 miles worth, and coasting in gear all the way with frequent braking and never touching the go-pedal in 50 degree weather resulted in a stone cold engine when we hit bottom. The entire way down, this jerk road my bumper. Most of the way,I couldn’t see his grill, he stayed that close. You know the guy, I’m sure.

So we get to the bottom where a little throttle is in order, and the entire world behind me vanished in a huge black cloud. Mr. Tailgate didn’t emerge from the cloud for a long time. While it was viscerally satisfying, I certainly would not have done such a thing on purpose. Way too much chance he’d have an accident, but fortunately the guy behind him wasn’t so much of a jerk.

I can't say for sure Ben because as you know we don't do "real" diesel testing in Kalifornia.

I can say this from experience. Diesels tend to have high NOX levels because of their efficiency. Almost any engine that has a turbo on it runs high exhaust temp and that makes for a bad NOX report.

The BB I had back in the day was tuned very sharp. There was very little HC's getting out of the exhaust even without a cat. The NOX was another story; being very high.

As you can see from the report Ben. Your Burb is in very good shape.

Curious and not wanting to fight over gas vs diesel, just want to know what diesel's compare to my 1996 port injection 7.4L's smog test results at about 170,000 miles

Think direct injection would be even cleaner, but just an opinion. Plus, with today's injector's speed, surly multiple squirts per would have better control over emissions, right?

For well over a decade. But it seems like a lot has been reported without much fanfare. There are numerous tuner companies and shops that have been fined or put out of business.

And if you decide to put it on national television and act like an @#! to other vehicles expect a visit eventually.
