I have a 2005 Dodge 2500 with diesel engine with 72K miles. local large truck repair service manager suggested I use Baldwin oil filter BT7349Baldwin Fuel Filter PF7977any of you guys ever use these filters in your dodge diesel trucks?if so, tell me the good, bad or dirty.I normally change fuel filter and oil/oil filter at 7500 mile intervals. I use Shell rotella 15w40 oil and motor seems to run well on it and does not use any oil, I run the stock 4" thick mopar air filter I have been using mopar oil filters from advance auto and whatever brand fuel filter they sell.just trying to up grade in filters as I want the motor to last as long as possible. That is why I ask the truck service manager for his advice.but also wanted to see what you guys advise.

Baldwin filters are one of the better brands. Go to places like genos garage and check prices.

Those early common rail engines like to eat injectors. Best way to protect them is with a good fuel filter.Oil filter is a toss as long as you use a good one.

I know they use Baldwin filters on the heavy equipment where I worked. Big trucks and front end loaders. I don't know about pickups tho.

Baldwin makes a good filter - have used them on my DuramaxRotella T synthtic - engineTranSynd - trannyMobil 1 synthetic 75X90 - front and rear diff.

Because they made a change several years ago, and I would not of known of it unless buying from Cummins dealer, your dealer might be different. I buy what I need usually for about 3 or 4 oil changes. I do use stock Fram air filters (and they are not as good IMO) so I change it every 3500 miles. I want the motor to last as long as possible IMO Nothing better than clean oil and clean air for these. I change oil about every 3-4 thousand miles. Don't like synthetic oil because diesels mix a lot of soot in motor with oil, so I keep it clean and not use it for 50,000 or 75,000 miles. EGT gauge is worth having and using to prevent oil from Coking in turbo. When fuel pump went out (2005) , I upgraded to FASS fuel system. Much better to change filters and to inspect. And I don't know how some of these guys are getting 22 or better MPH or Better. I get on average 19-20 tank to tank, and that is manual math not overhead gauge. http://www.turbodieselregister.com/ is worth the money each. Especially if you break down somewhere. You can either look up to see what problem might be in their forum. Or if being worked on by garage you'll be able to see if they are giving to line of BS. The filter minder on top of air filter housing, don't even look at it. Change air filter when it looks dirty. Your never going to be the fastest out there but you'll get there everytime. Most bullet proof light vehicle there is IMO. Be carful changing coolant and do homework to make sure you put right stuff back in. Not unusual to get over 500,000 miles. Body will fall apart before motor. If steering is giving you a hassle look up "lukes link", sort of more heavy duty. Notice I said IMO a lot?

It' actually TBN.

Mine was 4.7 with AMZ/OIL 15-40 after 7,500 miles.

I have used Blackstone for many years.

Complete waste of money to use synthetics with oil changes intervals of less than 10k miles and destructive to use a 5W motor oil which is what most of the diesel oils are rated at. Only benefit to a 5W-40 is driving in subzero temperatures much of the time.

Heavy towing is considered "severe duty" and it can decrease the service intervals by as much as 75% (if you have severe duty and dirt or offroad conditions). I reduced my service intervals by 50% as half the miles on my truck are when it is used in this fashion.

do any of you get Blackstone reports? I use oem filters on my powerstroke and Rotella T6 syn. Ran it 7K and they said to cut back to 5K because I tow heavy in extreem heat. Not unusual to see eot around 240+. Clean oil, air & fuel is key to a long life on all our trucks. For $25 the oil analysis is well worth the money. just thought I would toss this out. Not trying to derail the post.

I use Motorcraft oil and fuel filters, as the truck was designed for them. BUT...
I also have a coolant filter and a supplemental transmission fluid filter made by DieselSite. For those applications, nothing but Baldwin filters.

Fuel. I just replaced mine yesterday. Opened the box and the new one said Fleetgaurd on it, with Mopar & Cummins on it also. The old one is identical. It says StrataPore on the box with the pic of the filter. It's a two layer (inner/outer) element, 5 micron with 10 micron water stripping capabilities. The way I see it is it's the same as what came on the truck and as long as it's OEM the warranty should not be void. I know there are one or two that may be better but OEM is good in my book. FYI I have 9890 miles on it, but it's been 12 months so I'm going with the time part.

Made in Germany.

What I like about the Baldwin Fuel Filter on the Ford is it is a one piece rather than 2 piece.

Fuel filtration is not nearly as important as having an adequate fuel supply. The diesel helps to lubricate the injectors and fuel starvation from chipping the engine or filtration problems will rapidly increase the wear. Adding a lift pump with a dual filter setup is a good idea.

I change my oil at 7500 miles and use a mineral base stock oil (Valvoline Premium Blue which is recommended by Cummins). My truck is used 50% of the time with heavy hauling or towing which puts it half way into the severe duty category and I adjusted my change interval accordingly. If I went by the computer I would be changing it at 15K intervals. I could change it at shorter intervals but that would be a complete waste of time and money. 3000 mile oil changes was common practice in the 1960's but oils and engines have improved considerably in the past 50 years and this service interval makes absolutely no sense at all.

Synthetic base stock oils are worse than mineral based for use in diesel as the diesel synthetic oils are 5W-40 and with polymer shearing (problem with multi-grade oils) there is a much greater chance of metal to metal contact under full power. I am going to change out the oil and filter at 7500 mile intervals to remove soot and sludge anyway so zero gain in going to a synthetic base stock oil. Any gallon of oil is 25% additives and it is the formulation of the additives that determines the protection the oil provides the engine. The additive mix is part of the reason I do not use the GM recommended Chevron Delo which is all the Chevy dealers stock with my Duramax.
