- Bionic_ManExplorerNewsflash, the diesel half ton like an EcoDiesel is NOT targeted towards the RV market.
It is for the vast majority of owner who never tow anything. CAFE is forcing all manufactures to improve their MPG. Turbo gas engines do not move the needle enough. You will see more diesel vehicles (and hybrid) in the future from every manufacture. - 3oaksExplorer

If you're going to go that route, why not just opt for a F-250? :@
It will be nice to see a diesel in a half ton that has max tow & hd payload capability. - shepstoneExplorer

I sit back and think that GM really hit a homerun in the midsized market with offering the 2.8 Duramax. I mean here's a truck that gives good power, 4x4 optioned, good tow rating and payload for most weekend families. The price as far as I know isn't that bad and it fits in most garages... I often see a big HD truck just tugging a smaller boat on the weekends around here. Heck there are so many people with jacked up F250's and other HD trucks that don't pull a thing. Its all for show..... Ok off the soapbox, I think that other manufactures are sitting back a bit and seeing how the market responds to midsized trucks...I bet we will see a new Ford Ranger next, and wonder if a diesel or ecoboost will be found under the hood...Regardless Ford will do good with the F150 diesel in my opinion..

- wing_zealotExplorerThe only thing is you drop a diesel in on the north end and the payload goes bye bye on the south end.

Agreed... And at least have it available with that configuration. If not it will be another disappointment to the trailer pulling folks like the ED. Also some of the media is reporting it will be a small displacement like the grocery getter ED.- If I were purchasing a new .5 ton truck it would probably be the next gen 3.5 EB with a 10 speed transmission. If this engine is anything like the shining star 2.7EB it's going to be a outstanding.
Having said that I'm not sure diesel's with the extra expense can justify the ROI, and I'm not seeing the Eco Diesel's on the road either. To be honest I may (and that's a big maybe) see 1 Eco Diesel/month. Heck I see more Hellcat cars than Eco Diesels in the worlds truck capital. - Perrysburg_DodgExplorerThey didn't have much choice, the bigger EB makes a good tow engine but just can't compete in the MPG ring. They tried a smaller displacement but still came up sort in the fuel economy game. Bottom line most people want fuel economy over speed. That's were the diesels shine over gas engines, even twin turbos.
I said two years ago Ford would be putting a diesel in the F-150 and looks like I was right. So I wonder what all the Blue Oval boys, who were saying the Ecodiesel was a flash in the pan will have to say about Ford jumping on the band wagon!
Hope they do it right and don't fallow Nissan's path. My bet is they fallow FCA and go with a small displacement V6 3.2 or 3.5.
