Diesel, it excels at mountain towing and works fine as a daily commuter. I do both as I'm surrounded mountains as well and drive my truck ~8miles to work - stop and go city driving. If you could find an f250 gas with v10 you'd have the only real gas option for a trailer that size over passes.
