Sport, the Cruisers are about 9000 pounds empty. Their gross weight is about 11,500 and their hitch is about 1500. I doubt I'd fill the puppy as my pre-retirement vacations are limited to two weeks, and would probably pull a total weight of about 12,000 pounds. That's above the tow limit of an F-250 5.4 liter V-8, but within the tow limit of a 6.8 liter V-10.
The major problem with any diesel for my purposes is that the daily work commute does not entail any freeway milage. It's 19 miles one-way on county roads with a stop sign or stop light every 2-3 miles.
The major problem with any 350/3500 series truck is that they inherently have a much harsher ride than the 250/2500 series. Only about 2500 miles of the projected 14,000 yearly will be towing. The harsher ride will be a particular issue on the daily work commute, which will be more than half of the projected yearly milage.
