New to this site but the diesel vs gas will always be an issue. I tow with a 2005 F150 5.4 triton with 3.55 gears pulling a 2003 forest river 26DS TT. Its a light trailer, think total gross is 6800. Mileage is poor 8-10 while towing with 15 non-towing. Looking at a new truck next year and am impressed with the new F150 with 3.5 ecoboost engine. Glad to see a positive post about the 3.5. I would say when your nearing 9000lbs you should consider a diesel. That also depends on what area's your traveling (south vs north). I live in the south where hills are sparse. When traveling up north (PA & NY) its alot more hilly and I really have to keep my foot in the gas. Also consider what percentage your towing vs non-towing. Mine is 30% towing so thats why I would stick with a gas plus 1/2 ton vs 3/4.
