OK folks, there have been a few to many diesel vs gas threads that have shall we say gone to "Hell and a hand basket"! So if all of you would put in you BEST, no flaming reasons for going gas vs diese...

I had '99 diesel F250 which performed very well. No repairs at all on the diesel engine up to 119K miles. I did my own maintenance and oil changes at very reasonable cost.
Replaced it with '11 Tundra 5.7 with tow package. It performs well, at least up to the 4K ft level I've been to towing 25' 6K lb. Airstream. On flat land, 58 mph, no wind, no traffic (lol) it will deliver about 12-13 mpg in 6th gear. The diesel was about 3 mpg better.
For me it just boiled down to cost and use pattern. I'm a light to moderate user, tow from 2-5K per year. The half tons with right equip are sufficient for 6K lb aero trailer, and cost 15K $ less than a heavier diesel truck.
