I don't live in my trailer (at least not today) so I consider the higher price of fuel and the higher price of the vehicle as part of the pay to play. Sometimes its not about what's the cheapest, its about what works best. I personally enjoy the overhead that a twin-turbo diesel provides and the peace of mind of knowing that I have more truck than trailer and not the other way around. Besides, a gasser with a turbo or supercharger will have to use premium fuel, and the price difference between diesel and premium isn't much, so it's par for the course.
I'll call it the Trailer Paradox. Buy a bigger trailer than you need and pull it with the smallest truck that can... Sorry, not for me...
